Playwright
John Maclay is a playwright, adaptor, and lyricist whose plays and musicals have received over 150 productions throughout the United States and Canada. His newest musical, Lilly and the Pirates, is co-written by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Broadway playwright Will Eno, with music by long-time collaborator Brett Ryback. John has created three other successful musicals with Ryback, including Arthur & Friends Make a Musical, Nate the Great, and Little Piglet Gets a Sister. He is also the author of adaptations for the stage of The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors (with composer Eric Nordin), Geronimo Stilton: Mouse in Space, Anatole; Mouse Magnifique (with Lee Becker and James Valcq), and three plays with collaborator Joe Foust: The Revolting Teens of Sherwood, Apollo and the Trials of Hercules, and Romeo and Juliet Walk into a Bar. John’s new one-actor piece, Hopper, recently had a staged reading at the Tony Award-winning theater, Pasadena Playhouse, directed by Tony nominee Thomas Sadowsky and performed by Betsy Brandy (Breaking Bad, Life in Pieces). John has also written a web series, The Quest for Solomon’s Treasure, and is a published author of fiction. He is a proud member of Actors' Equity and the Dramatist Guild and resides just outside Chicago.
